Description
This is an image of the Wales Window for Alabama inside the 16th Street Baptist Church. It was given to the church by Welsh artist John Petts. According to Phillip Jenkins Petts was so overcome with grief by the killings of the four little girls that he wanted to commemorate the murder and contribute to the struggle for racial justice. It is a stained glass window that depicts a Black Savior with arms outstretched as if crucified. From Petts' interpretation the right hand pushes against injustice while the left hand is open for forgiveness
