Artist's Description

This is the iconic Edmund Pettus Bridge, sometimes just called The Bridge. It was recently seen in the movie Selma and is arguably the most famous landmark of the Civil Rights Era. It was the scene of two marches in 1965. The first on March 7, 1965 called Bloody Sunday and led by now Congressman John Lewis and Hosea Williams. The second was the famous march from Selma to Montgomery led by Dr. Martin Luther King, watched on TV by millions of people on television. The 50th anniversary of that march was held recently and was led by President Barack Obama and attended by thousands. I shot this image to look as if you could step right onto the bridge while imagining that there are 100 or more racist Alabama State Troopers waiting just on the other side to beat you half to death as they did John Lewis.
