Artist's Description

This is an image of the former F.W. Woolworth in Greensboro, NC. It was here where (stated briefly)on February 1st 1960 four young African-American men Ezell Blair, David Richmond, Franklin McCain and Joseph McNeil were refused service at a lunch counter just because they were black. They courageously chose not to give up their seats which sparked a tremendous reaction from whites.Television coverage of this event sparked a plethora of sit-in movements throughout the south and north. The success of this movement led to the integration of dining facilities across the country within six months. A section of the lunch counter can be seen as part of the tour of this facility, now known as the International Civil Rights Center and Museum
